R is for resting calcaneal stance position

July 18, 2023

The resting or relaxed calcaneal stance position is the position of the posterior aspect of the heel bone when standing relaxed in the angle and base of gait.

Healthcare professionals, such as podiatrists, physical therapists, and orthopedic specialists, often assess the resting calcaneal stance position to understand the foot’s alignment and determine if any abnormal pronation (excessive inward rolling of the foot) or supination (excessive outward rolling of the foot) is present. Based on this assessment, they may recommend appropriate treatments or orthotics to address any biomechanical issues and prevent potential foot, ankle, knee, or hip problems.
