Hallux purchase is how much force the hallux contacts the ground with.

Hallux purchase is usually tested by have the person stand with a piece of paper or card under the hallux and then the examiner attempts to pull the paper or card out from under the hallux. This is a an estimate of ‘hallux purchase’. The harder it is to pull the card out, the higher the force that the hallux is applying to the ground.
